Dr. Sonia Toussaint, M.D.

    Dr. Toussaint is professor of dermatology and dermatopathology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She completed her medical degree and graduated with honors from La Salle University Medical School in Mexico City and trained in dermatology at “Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez” General Hospital. She completed a 3-year fellowship in dermatopathology at New York University Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Hideko Kamino where she was involved in several projects related with melanocytic lesions. Dr. Toussaint has been working for the past 15 years at the Dermatopathology Department of Gea Gonzalez General Hospital in Mexico City, and during this period she has acquired vast experience in the histopathologic diagnosis of tropical infectious diseases, as well as in other maladies frequent in patients with Amerindian ancestry such as actinic prurigo, acral melanocytic neoplasms, hypopigmented mycosis fungoides and EVB-related cutaneous lymphomas. Dr. Toussaint is member by virtue of merits of the prestigious Mexican Academy of Medicine and registered as type-A Researcher in the National Researchers System of Mexico. She has authored and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed published papers, textbook chapters, is member of editorial boards of Mexican dermatology journals and invited speaker to several national and international meetings.
