Fibrous papule of the nose

Clinical Features:

  • Commonly presents on the face of middle-aged individuals, with a predilection for the nose
  • Small skin-colored papule

Histologic Features:

  • Slightly raised
  • Well-circumscribed upper dermal lesion composed of collagenous stroma with increased vascularity and scattered spindled and/or mutinucleated cells
  • Variants with granular or clear cell change exist.
  • The epidermis is normal to slightly atrophic.
  • The lesional cells stain for factor XIIIA and sometimes CD34.  They are negative for S-100.
