Clinical Features:
- Idiopathic eruption of brown-red plaques on the face of older adults
Histologic Features:
- Not truly granulomatous: dense, diffuse mixed dermal infiltrate comprised primarily of neutrophils with smaller numbers of mononuclear cells, plasma cells and mast cells
- A band of uninvolved dermis (grenz zone) separates the infiltrate from the epidermis and pilosebaceous units.
- Leukocytoclastic vasculitis may occur, but is usually mild.
- Red blood cell extravasation may occasionally occur.
