Nummular dermatitis

Clinical Features:

  • Pruritic nummular (coin-shaped) crusted plaques on the extensor surfaces of the extremities, most commonly affecting older adults

Histologic Features:

  • The typical features of spongiotic dermatitis are seen, without any characteristic features.
  • Intraepidermal vesicles may be present.
  • Similar to what is seen in delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions, clusters of Langerhans cells and eosinophils may be seen.
