Clinical Features:
- Seen in patients with treated hyperthyroidism
- Elevated knobby plaques or nodules with a waxy surface on the shins and occasionally dorsal feet
Histologic Features:
- Expansion of the dermis, most prominently the deeper dermis, by abundant mucin separating the collagen bundles (strongly Alcian blue positive)
- Fibroblasts appear to float in edematous areas.
- Lymphatic dilatation may be present.
- Fibrosis of the deep dermis and subcutis in older lesions
