Etc/GMT-4

Recent years have produced exponential growth in new techniques to supplement the morphologic evaluation of cytologic specimens. At this new course, general pathologists, cytopathologists, and cytotechnologists will hear from distinguished faculty, many of whom were instrumental in the creation of the 2008 Bethesda System for reporting thyroid cytopathology. Discussion will focus on major areas in diagnostic cytopathology, including the Bethesda System and the latest revisions regarding reporting gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology.

This course will serve as both an overview of selective problem areas and as a refresher, featuring a multidisciplinary approach, including a presentation by a well-known radiologist who will discuss salient radiologic features, differential diagnoses, and anatomic characteristics of various pathologic entities for better clinical-radiologic and cytopathologic correlations.

Special Course Features!

  • Pre-course review of virtual cases
  • Individual microscopes and more than 600 glass slide study sets for onsite review
  • Unknown case reviews with video microscopy
  • Five-head microscope for consultation with experts
  • SAM credits (online pre- and post-test required)

Following this course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate cytomorphologic changes in some of the more challenging areas of cytopathology and apply to your diagnoses.
  • Improve communication and promote collaboration between attending physicians, radiologists, and cytopathologists.
  • Apply new techniques to process and define challenging cytologic samples.
  • Integrate immunocytodiagnosis with flow cytometry, molecular, and genetic techniques in routine practice.

Core Competencies: PC, MK, PBL, SB
Intended Audience: Pathologists, Cytotechnologists, Pathology Residents
