Introduction to Toxicology

This is a half-day training course designed for HM Coroner’s Officers, Pathologists, Anatomical Pathology Technologists, Police, Solicitors and Forensic Nurses. This course will provide an overview of what modern toxicology is all about and how it is used to determine salient facts relating to an individuals’ drug use or poison intake either before or after death.

Delegates will learn about how biological samples should be taken and transferred correctly and the various analytical techniques that can be used to determine toxic chemicals and compounds.
Guidance on the art of the possible will be provided and the problems and pitfalls of results interpretation to benefit casework will be explained. Case studies will be used to highlight the importance of toxicology in particular cases in which our Expert Toxicologists have been involved.
