Path Soc: Summer School 2010

08/23/2010 - 00:00
08/25/2010 - 23:59
Etc/GMT-4

Organisers: Jorge Reis-Filho & Peter A Hall

Faculty includes: Alan Ashworth, John LeQuesne, Rune Linding, Louise Jones, Adrian Jubb, Richard Poulsom

Beginning from first principles this Summer School will outline and develop the essential concepts in the molecular pathology of disease, its pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment. The impact of high throughput methods will be discussed and its broader impact on medicine will be emphasised. While breast cancer will be used to exemplify important concepts and processes, and in particular new developments in genomic analysis, the Summer School will consider a broad area of molecular pathology and molecular medicine.

The course is aimed at pathologists, oncologists and other clinicians and also those thinking of engaging in research. Established consultants will also benefit, especially those wishing to develop molecular diagnostics. The course would also benefit scientists who wish to have an accessible and understandable introduction to the cellular biology and molecular pathology of disease processes and in particular breast cancer; and PhD students and post doctoral fellows entering breast cancer research.

No prior experience or knowledge is required but this would also be a valuable refresher for those with some prior knowledge. Teaching will be based on lectures, problem solving exercises and small group work.

The Faculty is drawn from experienced pathologists and scientists, researchers and teachers.
