The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill presents this symposium to update practicing pathologists on selected topics in interstitial, vascular, neoplastic, and infectious lung diseases. The invited guest speaker is Dr. Thomas V. Colby from Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, who will present the ninth annual Walter Benson lecture. Dr. Colby's Benson Lecture will discuss the Pathologist's role in the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease. He will give a second lecture highlighting features of selected inflammatory lung diseases that Pathologists should recognize. Additional lectures will be given by UNC faculty with specialty expertise in the topics presented, including vasculitides, neuroendocrine neoplasm classification, molecular subtypes of lung adenocarcinoma, multi-drug-resistant mycobacteria and gram-negative bacteria, epidemiology of respiratory viruses, and cytopathology- histopathology correlations in selected lung diseases. Ample time is provided for discussion and personal interaction between the faculty and attendees.
