Practical Issues for Practicing Surgical and Cytopathologists
This 17.25 hour CME advanced course is designed to provide updated pragmatic, problem-solving knowledge for practicing surgical and cytopathologists who also wish to remain current with the changing trends in cytodiagnosis and laboratory management. It addresses the resolution of diagnostic pitfalls relative to each of the major organ systems studied by cytopathology/FNA. Diagnostic dilemmas and potential pitfalls commonplace and unique to the major organ systems are explored. Correlation is fundamental to the practice of cytopathology; where appropriate radiologic imaging as well as concurrent cell block or needle core biopsies or subsequent surgical specimens are also presented. In addition, didactic lectures on QA/QC, risk avoidance and error reduction (pitfalls) will be presented. Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of basic cytopathology. A comprehensive syllabus and a CD-ROM containing illustrative PowerPoint presentations and handouts for each topic is included in the course fee. This course is intended to provide a pleasant, informal atmosphere for learning as well as opportunities for 1:1 interaction with the outstanding faculty.
