    Responsibilities:
    GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
    Full-time position as a Lab Manager for a basic research laboratory group investigating the role of adhesion molecules in regulating lymphocyte migration in humans. Functioning very independently and under the very general direction of the principal investigator, the Lab Manager performs high level, complex research experiments. Participates with the principal investigator in the design of experimental protocols, and, together with PI, supervises all laboratory personnel. On a regular basis, contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals and presentations and investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for research advancement. The laboratory does most of its research on human cells grown in culture, but some mouse experiments may be carried out as well.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supervises operation of the laboratory, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and staff activities.
    • Researches, develops, designs, executes and interprets research experiments.
    • Contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals and presentations.
    • Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for research advancement
    • Supervises operation of the laboratory, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and staff activities.
    • Reports on work in progress at weekly seminars and interprets experiment results in conference with other researchers.
    • Trains staff in specialized lab techniques.

    Requirements:
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Ph.D. preferred. MS degree or equivalent education in scientific field of research

    Five to seven years of direct research experience

    SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
    • Strong research design and analytical skills
    • Strong database statistical skills
    • In-depth knowledge of field of research
    • Excellent time management/organizational skills
    • Strong written and verbal presentation skills, will be required to assist in manuscript writing and preparation
    • Must have aptitude for technical problem solving
    • Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    1. Laboratory duties will require working in a modern biomedical research facility in the vicinity of properly contained chemical, biological and radiological materials.
    2. Animal related duties will require working in a modern research animal care facility and will necessarily involve interaction with animals as well as manipulation of human blood and tissues. This will require fine motor manipulations as well as familiarity with mouse surgical techniques, genetics and molecular biology.
    3. Animal and bench research activities will involve manipulation of materials and animals
    4. All procedures and facilities conform to federal, local and institutional safety and ethical guidelines.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position will supervise a Research Technician I. Will be responsible for orientating and training of new personnel.

    FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
    1. Responsible for some financial management of research lab. Develops budgets, analyzes trends, produces reports. Additionally participates in all aspects of grant writing and proposals
