Dermpedia

The mission of this web site is to collect and disseminate the knowlege, science and experience of dermatology and dermatopathology, branches of medicine concerned with understanding and diagnosing diseases of the skin.

It is a wiki, a free user-editable repository of information, case publishing platform, social networking site, on-line community designed specifically for dermatopathologists, dermatologists and general pathologists interested in skin diseases.

The basic premise of the Dermpedia project is that by providing an easy to use platform for sharing cases, we can tap into and organize the vast universe of knowledge about skin diseases by practicing physicians world-wide.

Dermpedia has a component of a textbook, but its most powerful feature is that it is an interactive and searchable library of interesting cases, clues and problems and provides a venue for collaboration. The opportunities for contributions are endless. You can edit Dermpedia textbook or create your own book. You can present your challenging cases and discuss cases presented by others. You can search images. Dermpedia provides platform for online conferences, events (i.e. Grand Rounds, Courses) and research projects.

While Dermpedia is designed for world-wide participation and sharing, it also allows for collaboration within smaller private groups, where you can limit participation and ability to view content to selected people (your practice, clients, insititution, society, alumni, social group, etc.).

Dermpedia also presents frequently updated content of selected key Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Pathology and Medicine Journals, so it can serve as the information hub for a busy dermatologist, dermatopathologist or pathologist. Registered users can comment (blog) about recently published articles.

You do not need to log-in to use the website. However, access to full features of the website requires registration. The membership is limited to physicians specializing in pathology, dermatopathology and/or dermatology. Physicans in training and nurse practitioners are also welcome. Non-physicians can manage non-medical content such as jobs, announcements, etc.

The website is an ongoing project, and your reports of errors and suggestions regarding its future development are most welcome.
